Yachtmaster ™ Preparation and Exam
Come sail the finest cruising grounds in Northern Europe upon one of our residential sailing courses, starting and finishing in Jersey. Take in the breath taking scenery, enjoy the pleasant weather, spot dolphins, all whilst learning how to sail. Not only is Jersey the sunniest spot in the UK but it also easy to get to from the UK with short and frequent direct flights from all major UK airports. All this and conveniently English speaking. Nearer to France but closer to home.
The Go-Sail.je Yachtmaster ™ Preparation course and exam is designed to prepare an already experienced skipper for their Yachtmaster ™ Coastal or Offshore exam.
There will be 3 days of preparation followed by 2 days of examination.
What experience is needed?
copy the RYA yacht master exam pre-requisites for both coastal and offshore, probably in two columns.
You need to submit your sailing resume prior to attending this course.
What to expect:
On this course we will run through a number of exercises you might expect to be tasked with during a yacht master preparation course.
We will coach you through the exercises and offer suggestions where your already capable skills could be enhanced.
This is a not a residential course but accommodation can be provided aboard the yacht if required.
Each morning we will start from St Helier and return in the evening. On one of the first two days of the preparation course there will be a night sailing session
Skippering a yacht on coastal and offshore passages demands strong navigation, seamanship and leadership skills. During the course your instructor will guide you through navigation, both offshore and in limited visibility, weather forecasting and passage planning, watch keeping, preparation for sea and handling heavy weather. You will put this all into practice as each student plans and executes passages taking complete command of the yacht. Weather permitting you will undertake a longer coastal passage.
You are required to cook some meals onboard, food onboard is included in the course fee. However, as we visit both the other Channel Islands and adjacent coast of France, we also dine ashore in a local restaurant at least once during the course.
Upon the successful completion of the RYA Coastal Skipper course you will be awarded the RYA Coastal Skipper Course Completion Certificate and will be able to skipper coastal passages safely and confidently.
