RYA Coastal SkipperCome sail the finest cruising grounds in Northern Europe upon one of our residential sailing courses, starting and finishing in Jersey. Take in the breath taking scenery, enjoy the pleasant weather, spot dolphins, all whilst learning how to sail. Not only is Jersey the sunniest spot in the UK but it is also easy to get to from the UK with short and frequent direct flights from all major UK airports. All this and conveniently English speaking. Nearer to France but closer to home.
The Go-Sail.je RYA Coastal Skipper course is designed to give an experienced RYA Day Skipper the confidence to undertake longer and more complex passages which may involve sailing at night or involve watch keeping systems.
What experience is needed? At least 15 days at sea, 8 hours night sailing and 300 nautical miles sailed with at least 2 days as skipper. Navigation theory to the level of Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster™ Offshore and boat handling to the level of Day Skipper.
What to expect:Skippering a yacht on coastal and offshore passages demands strong navigation, seamanship and leadership skills. During the course your instructor will guide you through navigation, both offshore and in limited visibility, weather forecasting and passage planning, watch keeping, preparation for sea and handling heavy weather. You will put this all into practice as each student plans and executes passages taking complete command of the yacht. Weather permitting you will undertake a longer coastal passage.
You are required to cook some meals onboard, food onboard is included in the course fee. However, as we visit both the other Channel Islands and adjacent coast of France, we also dine ashore in a local restaurant at least once during the course. Upon the successful completion of the RYA Coastal Skipper course you will be awarded the RYA Coastal Skipper Course Completion Certificate and will be able to skipper coastal passages safely and confidently.
