THIS EVENT IS SUBJECT TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONSRound the Island Race 2023The worlds largest and most spectacular yacht race in the world with amateurs and professionals racing side by side. The race course, approximately 50nm, circumnavigates the Isle of Wight with the start and finish at Cowes. The race regularly attracts over 1,400 yachts and around 15,000 sailors.
The race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, was first held in 1931. The race has a fascinating history and has constantly evolved with new technology both on and off the water. The history can be found on the Island Sailing Club's website by following this link.
What is Go Sail offering: We have entered our Jeanneau SunFast 3600 'Solis Ortus' into the 2023 Round the Isle of Wight race. You have the opportunity to race aboard Solis Ortus in the Round the Island race and to sail across the English Channel from Jersey to Cowes.
We have put together two packages for you to choose from for this adventure: Package 1: Sail from Jersey on the Wednesday prior to the race, departing in the evening, across the English Channel to Cowes. We will arrive Thursday afternoon and then have some down time before sailing exercises and race practise on Friday. On the Saturday we will race the 50nm course around the island. It is expected to be an early start due to the tides. Following the race we will moor up in Cowes and then head ashore to the Race Village. On the Sunday we will set sail for Jersey at a time to provide a favourable passage through the Alderney race and will aim to arrive back in Jersey on the Monday morning. Package 2: Join us in the Solent Friday lunchtime, you can make your own way from Jersey or from elsewhere. From here take part in some practise on the Friday afternoon, race around the island on Saturday and then enjoy the race village. You are welcome to head home on the Saturday morning or stay with us until Sunday. If you wish to sail with us across the channel in one direction only then please let us know. There is accommodation aboard Solis Ortus, however, if you do wish to book accommodation ashore please do let us know so that we can make available a berth aboard. What experience is needed:Prior to joining the round the island race you should have some previous racing experience, at least one yacht race and preferably aboard Solis Ortus. We have entered Solis Ortus into all of the yacht races in the local Jersey racing calendar so there is plenty of opportunity to gain experience prior to the event.
What is included:
What to bring:We recommend that you bring the following list of items with you, please remember not to bring too much stuff with you as there is limited stowage space aboard and too much weight will slow us down!
